The Challenger Learning Center has acquired a test nose cone by donation from the Paducah chapter of the Civil Air Patrol. The nose cone will be displayed outside the center and we are holding a contest to give it a name! Read the long description for more information. You must enter a name and then in the comments tell why you want that name and give the information of your school and teacher.

The Challenger Learning Center received the nose cone as a donation from the Paducah chapter of Civil Air Patrol. The nose cone will be displayed outside the center. We think it needs a new name in its new home. Here is the little bit of background that we know about the nose cone: It went to space on an Atlas rocket sometime between 1963 and 1965. It did not orbit the earth, but went up and came down. It was a test for the U.S. Air Force’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Program. Although it did not carry a missile, it was used to test for reentry and the best time for missile detonation. The nose cone has been in Paducah since 1967. It has not been on display for several years.
